In the last season, an impressive 150 hectares were treated with the innovative ARA system, primarily in onion crops but also in grassland. One system was successfully sold to a farmer, and this year ARA is in use in Marchfeld and Amstetten through local Lagerhäuser.
Discovered by the Agro Innovation Lab in 2022, the ARA system revolutionizes weed control with a six-meter-wide field sprayer that uses artificial intelligence and six cameras to distinguish weeds from the main crop. By targeted application, it saves up to 85% of spray and protects the crops. Interested parties can see the system live at demo events and inquire about purchase or rental options at Lagerhäuser Marchfeld, Amstetten, and Technik-Center.
Retrospective on Weed Control in Onions
Due to the phytotoxicity of onions, the use of ARA makes particular sense. Whole-area and repeated application not only weakens the onion yield but also its quality, making it more susceptible to diseases. Last year, approximately 150 hectares were treated in Marchfeld. Farmers were impressed with the precise spraying results and the ease of use. On average, around 30 liters per hectare of spray solution were applied, resulting in an 85% savings compared to full-area application (source: Ecorobotix data portal). ARA is again in use in Marchfeld this year.
What’s Next?
ARA will also be in Amstetten and Marchfeld this year. Additionally, there will be demo events where you can see the spot sprayer in action. For purchase or rental inquiries, please contact the Lagerhaus Technik-Center, Lagerhaus Amstetten, or Lagerhaus Marchfeld.
