In recent years, drones have shown that they are valuable tools in agriculture. One of the latest applications of drones is the sowing of seeds on agricultural land. This brings numerous advantages, from increasing efficiency to protecting the environment.

The biggest advantage is undoubtedly the fact that sowing can take place even in deep and wet soils. Standing crops prevent machinery from driving over many areas at times without causing major damage. Pre-harvest sowing allows the catch crop to be spread in the standing crop before harvest. The advantages become apparent immediately after harvesting due to the continued uptake of nutrients as well as the strong reduction of drying out in the soil.

Another advantage of drones in seed application is their ability to reach difficult-to-access or steep terrain. In many rural areas, there are fields that are hard to cultivate due to slopes or other topographical challenges. With drones, seed can be easily applied to such fields.

This season, we are already conducting tests in different crops to gain valuable expertise in this area. For this project, we are working with a well-known drone manufacturer as a partner. Another expert partner for our trials this year is HTL Ried Agricultural and Environmental Engineering. The tests focus on both the technical aspects of spreading and the agricultural requirements. Based on these tests, we expect to gain valuable insights that will enable us to offer further services in this area in future.

Stay tuned.
